Please refer to the Existing Builds and Docker links for the releases listed above. Instructions are provided for accessing the METplus components on several NCAR, NOAA, and community machines.
If this will be the first installation of METplus on a machine, refer to the installation process overview below. For a detailed installation guide, visit the desired METplus component user's guide. Please note that your machine may have permission settings or environment paths that will need to be adjusted in order for METplus to run properly.
The 4-Step Installation Process for METplus
Step One: Installing MET and METplus Dependencies
Before MET or any METplus component will run correctly, the necessary external dependencies should be installed. Review the MET User's Guide and its web pages for proper installation instructions and dependencies for MET.
Each additional METplus component will have its own set of external dependency requirements; please see the respective user's guide and web pages for a list. For example, the wrappers online User's Guide will provide you with all of the dependencies needed for running the Python-based wrappers properly.
Step Two: Download the Latest MET Release tarball and Additional Desired METplus Component Releases from GitHub
See the recommended Release listed above to access the latest version of each components Release tarballs.
Step Three: Run Compile Script or Manually Install MET
You will find the latest compile script for MET on the MET download page under the heading "Sample Script for Compiling External Libraries and MET". Read all of the instructions carefully before attempting to run the script. Users also have the option to manually build the MET package. Use the instructions laid out in the MET User's Guide.
Step Four: Check for Successful MET Installation and Install Remaining METplus Components
If you have completed the previous steps correctly, you should be ready to run MET process commands. Use the MET User's Guide to guide you through running a few sample test scripts.
If you ran into any issues or compile errors, be sure to visit all of the resources available to you, including the MET User's Guide, the GitHub Discussions forum and the older met_help email archive, and the FAQ pages (on the respective component pages). If you're still having trouble, visit our Get Help page, and we'll help you get a working instance of MET on your system!
As you move onto installing the remaining METplus components, such as the wrappers, you should find less pre-work to be done; MET requires many dependencies as the statistical brain of METplus, whereas the other METplus components require fewer as they make running and processing MET output easier for you, the user. Be sure to visit the corresponding pages for the installation guides on the remaining METplus components. They will require a stable installation of MET to already exist.
Please see Get Help for comments and questions regarding METplus.
Other Installation Options
Will Hatheway, a meteorologist in Austin, TX, created BASH scripts to self install all the required files to run the WRF suite of models and Hurricane WRF. Due to requests from the community, he added BASH scripts to install the MET and METplus. These scripts are available on his GitHub page and are supported by him.
