Running Init_ocean

Hello,

I am at the process of running the init_ocean_wrapper; however, I am missing the loop directory because I was unable to

acquire warm core ring data and loop current for ocean initialization. I also didn't have access to GFS spectral files in NEMSIO format

required to complement the GDEM ocean initialization; therefore, I passed the following variable: "pom.gfssst_type=1". I have been using

the table that provides instruction on where to access the HWRF input. For ocean loop, the only data available is for the current date.

Do I have to run an uncoupled forecast? and if so, should I pass the following lines: "prelaunch.basin_overrides=no", "run_ocean=no"?

Thank you for your help,

Hana

Hi Hana,

You can still do a coupled run even though you do not have access to GFS spectral files. You should use: pom.gfssst_type=1. Also, look at Section 3.8.6 of the HWRF Users Guide on what to use for GFS GRIB files and what options are there for data assimilation. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

Biswas

Hi Biswas,

Thank you for responding to my last question. I passed the following to my launch_wrapper:
"pom.ini_data=gdem" \  "pom.gfssst_type=1" \  "config.gfsinit_type=1" \  "prelaunch.basin_overrides=no" \  "config.run_gsi=yes" \
 "gsi_d02_nml.HYBENS_REGIONAL=F" \  "gsi_d03_nml.HYBENS_REGIONAL=F" \ "gsi_d02.use_gfs_stratosphere=no" \ .

I have ran the init_ocean after changing the config; however, it complains about the following error:

ERROR: /glade/scratch/hjafary/pytmp//2019082412/05L/pom/input/hwrf_gfdl_loop_current_rmy5.dat.20190824 /glade/scratch/hjafary/pytmp//2019082412/05L/pom/input/hwrf_gfdl_loop_current_wc_ring_rmy5.dat.20190824 files do not exist

I will attach a screenshot of my error file to this post. I appreciate your help with this.

Thank you,
Hana

Hi Hana,

I updated the HWRF_v4.0a_datasets_loop.tar.gz file to include 2019 loop data. Please download the file again from the HWRF website and let me know if you still run into issues.

Thanks

Biswas
