BUFR (Binary Universal Form for the Representation of meteorological data) is Table Driven Data Representation Forms approved by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for the operational use in 1988. Since then, it has been used for the representation and exchange of observational data, as well as for archiving of all types of observational data in operational centers, including National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).
As an extension of the DTC GSI website and resources, DTC also offers documentation to the community for the encoding, decoding, and appending of the NCEP BUFR files. For this purpose, the BUFR/PrepBUFR users' page provides:
- Sample code from DTC to encode, decode, and append BUFR/PrepBUFR files
- User contributed BUFR/PrepBUFR code
- BUFR/PrepBUFR documentation and information for training users to encode and decode BUFR/PrepBUFR files by themselves
