The Bureau of Meteorology had commenced a project to implement an operational forecast verification system. This system will have METplus at it's core, and will deliver a significant upgrade to verification capabilities at the Bureau. To implement this system the Bureau has designed a software system to prepare input datasets, store and manage METplus config files, and schedule METplus job "on the fly".
As part of this project, the automated test coverage of METplus needed to increased to 90% to comply with the Bureaus software standards. To achieve this the Bureau made an in-kind contribution of developer time to work on unit tests and test infrastructure in METplus, and in late 2023 this goal was achieved. The success of this work lead to John Sharples being accepted for the NCAR visitor program. During this visit similar automated test work is being carried out for the METplus Analysis tools.
